Maryborough, Qld

We visited Maryborough and were surprised by the historical richness we found. Established on the wide Mary River, the town was an important port in 1800s with many immigrants arriving and being processed here for the whole area. We attended a 90 minute conducted tour of the town which is done by volunteers every day from 9.00am.

Photo 1 shows the post office. It looks almost like an old building in Italy. Photo 2 shows Geraghty’s store from the outside and Photo 3 from the inside. Opened in 1871, the store ceased trading in 1972 and it has been retained as a museum with stock going back to the 1890s.
